My Disney childhood never prepared me for the truly rich adventures of Alice! As I started this classic tale I was drawn in when Alice began her decent into the rabbit hole. The very long, suspenseful and amusing decent. I could imagine her lifting a teacup from a cupboard as she fell in slow motion, then setting the teacup back down. The great fun in the giant pool of tears was also completely new to me and I was completely hooked on that tale at that point. I had seen movies and cartoons based on the story, but the idea of the Queen of Hearts and her King as cards was new to me. This story took on such new meaning and I laughed foolishly during my lunch breaks at work. A co-worker explained to me the theory behind the Mad Hatter and how the chemicals in the felt of the hat often lead to madness. I very much wanted to be at that tea party. The clever poems and songs throughout the book were all new to me and I hope that somewhere the author has produced a book just for such things so I might find and enjoy it one day. I'm so grateful to have found this book and I look forward to reading of Alice's adventures "Through the Looking Glass".
